On Day 3, Day 60 or even Day 365 — no one knows exactly when a breakthrough will happen or when help will be needed most. That’s why Here Tomorrow Inc. ensures that military members and veterans struggling with mental health challenges never have to face them alone.
The Neptune Beach-based nonprofit organization was one of 12 recipients of VyStar Foundation’s 2024 military grant cycle, in order to expand its life-saving services. With this support, Here Tomorrow continues to provide accessible, no-cost mental health support designed to meet military members and veterans where they are, when they need it.

“When you go to the VA, you take a number and they give you a little bit of time,” said Clinton, a U.S. Army veteran. “But with Here Tomorrow, there is more of a personal touch. You’re still in their thoughts even when you’re not physically there.”
Here Tomorrow’s approach prioritizes long-term engagement and follow-ups, ensuring that individuals don’t just receive help once but continue to feel supported over time. Clients are known as “Friends” and build lasting relationships with trained peer mentors — two of whom are veterans themselves — who understand their experiences.
Breaking Barriers to Support
Mental health support can be difficult for military members, veterans and even everyday Americans due to long wait times, insurance challenges or other factors. That was the experience of Joe Kenney, whose son struggled to find mental health resources and died by suicide in 2019.
Two years later, Joe founded Here Tomorrow in Neptune Beach. The organization focuses on removing two barriers to mental health support: accessibility and affordability. Since its inception, Here Tomorrow has served over 2,300 individuals in crisis, including more than 100 military members and veterans.
The organization’s work — and impact — continues to grow. From June 2024 to February 2025, Here Tomorrow conducted 437 peer support sessions with 67 active military members and veterans. Peer mentors are available in person, over the phone or even virtually. Most importantly, they follow up consistently, reinforcing the message that support isn’t a one-time conversation but an ongoing commitment.
VyStar Foundation’s grant went towards a Here Tomorrow peer’s salary and also helped cover 87 therapy sessions of 16 active military and Veterans. These sessions with licensed providers who collaborate with Here Tomorrow are a lifeline for many who previously struggled to find consistent care.
“By funding Here Tomorrow, VyStar Foundation ensures that those who’ve served our country are supported during a mental health crisis,” said Joshua Rey, Here Tomorrow’s grant coordinator. “Here Tomorrow is here at no cost and with no wait because of VyStar.”
For Hailey, a U.S. Navy Reserve Veteran, the organization’s support was critical. Like many others, she struggled to find a consistent outlet prior to getting linked up with Here Tomorrow.
“I had a really hard time when my TRICARE (health insurance program) wasn’t going through, so I went months without therapy,” she said. “Here Tomorrow helped me get into therapy again and talk to somebody.”
More Than a Number

Here Tomorrow’s peer support model ensures that no one slips through the cracks. Peer mentors guide individuals through coping strategies, goal setting and personal follow-ups. They help Friends accomplish SMART goals and follow up on Day 3, 7, 14, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 120, 180, 270 and 365. Their ongoing presence reminds those in crisis that they are valued, supported and never alone.
“Without Here Tomorrow, I really don’t know where I would be because I don’t feel that anybody was understanding my struggles,” said Gloria, a U.S. Army veteran.
Through its commitment to personalized, ongoing support, Here Tomorrow is changing lives — one conversation, one breakthrough and one Friend at a time.
For anyone feeling hopeless or suicidal, or for those who know someone in crisis, Here Tomorrow offers no-cost, no-wait support every day of the year. Services are available in person at 910 3rd Street in Neptune Beach, by phone at 904-372-9087, and virtually on Microsoft Teams.
